FORT MYERS, Fla. (Dec 30, 2020) — Heatherwood Construction Company has completed a full renovation of the Jones Walker Palm Gardens Apartments — a 61,000-plus-acre community of 160 affordable housing apartment homes at 2902 Blount St. in Fort Myers.

New owners, Redwood Housing of Austin Texas, made good on their promises to renovate the affordable housing community and temporarily rehouse tenants during renovation. Renowned in the Southwest Florida community, Heatherwood Construction was hired to fully renovate the older housing project to improve living standards and bring the units up to code.

The project was led by the Bonita-Springs-based team’s Senior Project Manager, Rafael Valdes, and additionally supervised by Charles Crouch and Levi Whiteleather. Design was done with MK Architecture and overseen by Architecture Project Manager, Carlos Cardet.

Renamed the Royal Palm Gardens after Redwood Housing purchased it, the affordable housing community offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom options. The renovation included a demolition to the studs to accomodate central air conditioning, update plumbing and electrical and bring all other items up to code. All units have brand-new appliances, cabinetry, among other items. In addition to the renovation of the individual units, Heatherwood Construction renovated the community center and doubled its size. The community center now offers amenities such as a large gathering room, computer room, expanded weight room, updated laundry room, and staff offices.

“Affordable housing is an integral part of our community and we were so grateful for the opportunity to renovate this apartment complex”, stated David Ellis, Director of Business Development at Heatherwood Construction. “As someone who has been a part of developing affordable housing communities for the last 30 years, it’s great to have partners that equally share in the care of its community.”

All tenants were moved back into their new homes at the end of November. To celebrate the completion of this project and the Christmas season, Heatherwood Construction teamed up with Toys for Tots and Love & Light Ministries to have a gift giveaway for the residents at the Royal Palm Gardens Apartments. With social distancing measures in place, residents arrived at their specific time on December 16th, to receive their Christmas gifts. 130 children were given two + presents each to make the holiday season a little more joyful during this tough season.

“Heatherwood Construction prides itself on leading with honor and compassion for our clients and community,” said Walter Crawford, President of Heatherwood Construction. “I’m grateful for a team who understands the importance of giving back, and love when our projects allow us to combine our expertise in construction renovation with our desire to make a positive impact around us”.
